.mobi
The top level domain name (TLD) .mobi was created with the intent to improve user experience on mobile devices. The Mobile Web Initiative, created by the World Wide Web Consortium, aided development of mobile standards and best practices were focused at the .mobi TLD. .mobi became available to use in late 2006.
.mobi requires that those who use it must create a user experience that falls withing the protocol for mobile optimized design standards. Some of these features would include a Website layout that adjusts for many different sized screens, small screen sizes, touch sensors, and images that are optimized for mobile devices. To learn more about guidelines and requirements for .mobi and mobile development in general, visit mobiForge.com. To test your current Website for mobile compatability, visit the Mobile-Friendly Test page at Google Developers.
One of the less convenient truths about the .mobi TLD is that it is not mobile to computer compatible. As an example, say you found a great Web page and wanted to send this to your home computer. The computer, having a large screen and so forth, would display the content completely different than if it was on the mobile. This is of course if it is still using the .mobi top level domain name.
